Any woman who undertakes an amniocentesis test
should carefully consider the implications of the procedure and the
possibility of a positive (abnormal) result.
Amniocentesis should be considered with care, and you should
discuss this with your partner and medical team. Pre-test
counselling should be provided by a member of your antenatal
team.
The counselling required if a pregnant woman opts for a cystic
fibrosis test is less straightforward and an experienced genetic
counsellor should be recommended.
